Overview
The Workforce App is a mobile application designed to streamline field operations for BuddyPro employees, enabling technicians to manage their daily tasks efficiently while staying connected to the central system.
The goal of this project was to redesign the existing app to improve usability, visual clarity, and accessibility, allowing field staff to:
Complete task checklists on-site
Accept and track assignments in real time
Attach photo reports and expense entries
Stay updated with all relevant task information
My focus was on UI redesign, creating a consistent visual language, and testing improvements to ensure the app supported field employees effectively.
Problem Statement
The original Workforce App had several usability issues:
Complex navigation and outdated interface slowed down task completion
Inconsistent visual hierarchy made it hard to prioritize actions
Poor accessibility and responsiveness affected mobile use
Field workers needed a more intuitive way to manage checklists, report photos, and track expenses
The challenge was to redesign the mobile experience while maintaining alignment with BuddyPro’s brand and ensuring ease of use for all users, regardless of digital literacy.
Research & Discovery
To inform the redesign, I collaborated with the UX designer and stakeholders to:
Conduct user interviews and surveys with field technicians
Analyze pain points and current usage flows
Review the old app to identify major friction areas
Key insights:
Users struggled with task prioritization and navigation
Reporting photos and expenses was cumbersome
Real-time updates were not clearly visible
These findings guided the creation of wireframes and prototypes.
Define
We defined core user flows that were critical for the field staff:
Viewing and accepting assigned tasks
Completing task checklists on-site
Attaching photo reports and adding expense entries
Tracking task status in real time
This ensured the redesign focused on practical field usage and mobile-first interaction.
Ideation & Wireframing
I created low-fidelity wireframes and explored multiple layouts for mobile dashboards, task lists, and reporting screens.
The focus was on:
Simplifying task flow
Highlighting actionable items
Reducing cognitive load for field staff
Rapid feedback sessions with stakeholders and select users helped validate structure before moving to high-fidelity design.
High-Fidelity Design & Prototyping
I developed high-fidelity screens in Figma, creating:
A clear visual hierarchy with color and typography cues for task importance
Modular components to support future updates
Mobile-optimized layouts for on-the-go usability
Interactive prototypes were created for usability testing with 10 field technicians, identifying friction points and confirming improvements.
Testing & Iteration
Through user testing, we iterated on:
Simplifying checklist completion and submission flow
Improving visual feedback for completed tasks
Enhancing visibility of photo and expense reporting
Refining navigation and real-time notifications
These iterations ensured the redesign was efficient, clear, and user-friendly for field staff.
Design System & Handoff
I contributed to a modular UI system for the app, including:
Buttons, icons, and input fields optimized for mobile touch interactions
Color palette and typography consistent with BuddyPro brand
Interactive components ready for developer handoff
Close collaboration with developers ensured smooth implementation and adherence to accessibility standards.
Results
Redesigned mobile interface launched successfully for field employees
Reduced task completion time and friction in daily operations
Positive feedback from technicians on usability and clarity
Modular design system allows for future scalability and feature expansion
Reflection
This project strengthened my expertise in mobile UI redesign, prototyping, and usability testing.
Collaborating with UX designers and developers allowed me to balance visual design, accessibility, and practical functionality, creating a product that directly supports users in the field.
